Yikes, it's been a bit over a year since I've posted?! A lot has happened in that time. To hit the high notes (and in no particular order), I:

-Landed my dream job
-Had many wonderful experiences with many wonderful people
-Attended several really great concerts
-Learned so much about myself
-Got a pet snake
-Along with my primary partner, joyfully welcomed into our lives his daughter, who found him after being adopted at birth 20 years ago
-Loved the shit out of my two adorable kitties
-Did a lot of really fun things with my various partners
-Finally Started taking control of my health by finding a primary doctor, seeing specialists, and *gasp!* following their recommendations
-Read some amazing books
-Began more intentionally cultivating certain areas of my life that bring me happiness <3
-...And I just got a new computer, after months of not really having a functional one, which is the whole reason why I'm even able to check in!

So, hello! I make no promises, but I would like to update this more regulary!

I hope anyone reading this is well <3
NIN logo on stage and on the rocks after Head Like A Hole

On Friday, September 2 and Saturday, September 3, 2022, I had the incredible pleasure and privilege of being able to see my favorite band, Nine Inch Nails, at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado.

To see a show at this venue had been a dream of mine for years, in fact being an item on my literal written-down bucket-list. And all the better that it happened to be NIN -- Red Rocks is one of their favorite venues to play, so I knew it would be extra special.

I live in Maryland, so I flew out to Colorado the night before the first show. My flight got delayed a few times, and by the time I arrived at my destination and got checked into my hotel room, it was after 3am, which felt more like 5am with the time difference. I collapsed until about 1 in the afternoon, when I got up and ready and headed into town... Read more... )

The past month-or-so has been jam-packed full of excitement and adventure!
I haven't had a chance to sit down and write things out yet (because so much has been going on!), but I really hope to be able to soon!

Here's the basic run-down:

-From August 26-29, I was in Deep Creek, MD, for my annual "camping" trip with friends ("camping" in quotes, because the past few years we've rented a nice house/cabin, but we used to do campsites with tents! We still call it "camping" because we do it in the same spirit, the activities are the same -- hiking, swimming, firepit, etc -- it's only the type of dwelling which has changed.)

-From September 2-4, I was in Denver, CO, to see both Nine Inch Nails shows at Red Rocks on the 2nd and 3rd. Going to Red Rocks had been on my literal written-down bucket-list for years! And NIN really loves performing there, so to see them there was extra special!

-On September 10, I went to the Maryland Renaissance Festival!

-On September 21, I got to finally go to the My Chemical Romance show in Newark that my bestie Shannon bought the tickets for pre-covid. We'd waited so long for that day to come, and it was so worth the wait!

-On September 24, I drove me and my guy Dave up to Ohio to see Nine Inch Nails, Nitzer Ebb, and Ministry at Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls. The show was truly one for the history books, with past band members joining in on stage toward the end. And apparently, it was the end of this era of NIN. I have no idea what that entails, but I just feel very satisfied that I got to be there for this show, and for 4 others this year!

-The next day, September 25, when Dave and I were driving home through Pennsylvania, we stopped and did some various George A. Romero's Living Dead tourism -- stopping at the cemetery in the beginning of Night of the Living Dead, and then visiting Monroeville Mall, where Dawn of the Dead takes place, as well as being home of the Living Dead Museum!

And then, I was finally home... and even though everything was super fun, this has got to have been one of the busiest months I have ever had in my life, and I'm tired XD
So far, October looks like a much calmer month, thank goodness! So hopefully I will be able to write more about these fun things I did!

I had some recent quotes I wanted to post, but it also occurred to me that since I didn't do much blogging for the past several years, I had, somewhere, a trove that had not yet been shared!

So here you go! They're roughly arranged from most- to least-recent. The oldest ones are from 2015 or so. You'll notice that most of them happen when I'm playing role playing games (especially DnD and Vampire), with usually the same group of friends :)

That group of friends is the same one that I go camping every year with. We just had our annual trip to Deep Creek this past weekend, and I intend to write a post about that, as well!

"She's a rhinocer-roadblock!"
--Jason, while playing DnD, when Robin wild-shaping as a rhinoceros became paralyzed (which was bad) but in a doorway with bad guys on the other side (which was good!)

"Hmmm... now I have a moral dilemma. I'm gonna write it on my character sheet"
-- Jason

Jason: Do I see anything besides a crossbow bolt flying toward my face?
Josh (DM): You see a man with a crossbow!

Radio: *Ad for the "Cool People Who Did Cool Stuff" podcast comes on WBIG 100.3, a classic rock station*
Jay: Oh wow! They used to be sponsored by the Concept of Potatoes, so I feel like they're moving up in the world!

Tonight Jay and I went to Red Robin in Columbia to meet up with my friend Katie 😊 it was good to see her and catch up for a while (and eat bottomless fries 🤤).

We talked at one point about the importance of taking pictures of people in your life who are special to you, and preserving those memories. I snapped this selfie of us on our way out, and I thought that posting it would be most appropriate, given that Katie and I also reminisced about the days of LiveJournal, and I told her about Dreamwidth. (So... hi, Katie!)

In general, I'm trying to take more pictures of the people and things that make me happy, like I used to -- this was a photo blog for many years. I look forward to both making those memories and sharing them 😊

Lou, a nonbinary person with pink glasses and a shaved head, smiles broadly while posing under a tree in bloom with white flowers.     Well, hello there!

Apparently, it's been, like, 6 years since I've posted anything on my website blog.
I'll attribute this at least partially to the fact that I was using Livejournal, and LJ had a LOT of changes that made it less appealing for me to use. The biggest clincher was when they made it so that ads would be shown to others even though I had a paid account. Like, if you can't pay to get rid of ads, what are you even paying for? Not to mention all the Russia stuff -- it's weird to know that your account is governed by another country's State media.

So, after doing a little research and poking around, I have switched to Dreamwidth, which has no ads... and as far as I can tell, no obligations to state media regulations.
I've imported in all of my entries from the LJ page, but I do caution that some of them might have broken links or pictures. This is more because I recently switched website hosts, and did not move all my pictures from the previous one to the new one. Please feel free to leave a comment if you notice a particular entry with missing/broken stuff!

So yeah, that's just a few little housekeeping things, and I hope to be using this to say and do more in the future! Thanks for checking it out! <3
